Greg Dutton

Executive Creative Director

A timeline of sorts

1991-1994  Fallon McElligott

Whoever said “Don't meet your heroes” was bad at choosing heroes. I spent four years working with mine and that experience became the bedrock of my career. That creative standard is still my every day. And yeah, I have one of the letterman jackets.

1994-1996  Odney Advertising

I got to work on everything that came in the door, Jackpot Junction casino, Bremer Bank and a whole lot of dairy work – and with a friend and copywriter, John Arms. We experimented and pushed and played and it was good. I learned how to be reckless. How to do a lot with a little. And how to get into the One Show.

1996-1997 BBDO Minneapolis

Hormel brands and Air Touch Cellular made up the majority of my tour at BBDO, where I left with a book full of FSIs and coupons for Dinty Moore Beef Stew. I also saw the power of a charismatic creative director who can own the room. *Mental note

1997-1999  Peterson Milla Hooks

This was a time when the agency was leading the lifestyle makeover of the Target brand. I even got to do a little bit of it. Though my time was spent on other agency work like Northwest Athletic Club. It was fine.

1999 - 2004  Initio

Redwing Shoes, Bailey Nurseries, Bremer Bank again and John Arms again. Lots of TV, print and Napster. Then, because I thought I was really smart, I made the single best decision of my career.

2004 -2019  Wingnut Advertising

I started an agency. I learned that I wasn't as smart as I thought — but I got there eventually. We built a brand, a culture and did some great work for clients like Optum Health, UMD, Stormy Kromer and Cargil to name a few. We won some push pins and one of those cool AIGA cubes. But pitching and winning Amsoil motor oil was my proudest moment. We had built an agency that poured itself into creative just like I learned at Fallon. And it worked.

2019 - 2021  Augeo

We sold Wingnut and brought our clients with us to Augeo. Then COVID hit and our little agency didn't make it.

2021 - Present  Broadhead

I came to Broadhead to take over creative leadership of the Boehringer Ingelheim brand. I didn't have a ton of experience in ag, but it was a new challenge. After the first year I was promoted to ECD, where I led a reorganization of the department while sharing some of the CD work with another. The following year I was promoted to EVP of Creative where I continued to lead some of the BI business and manage our departments in Minneapolis, Seattle, Charlotte and Madison. In the past 2+ years we have worked with brands like Nike, Abbott Labs, Norfolk Southern Railroad, Cravings by Crissy Tiegen and Sunkist. Broadhead is no longer an ag-first agency and we are winning the awards to prove it.
